Namchi, 18th November 2023: The Limboo-Tamang Voluntary Commission (LTVC) orchestrated a compelling peace rally in Jorethang today, advocating for scheduled tribe seat reservations for the Limboo and Tamang communities in the Sikkim State Legislative Assembly.

Commencing from Akkar Bridge in Jorethang, the rally traversed Majhigaon, concluding at the Old Namchi Stand in Jorethang. With over 2500 participants, predominantly from the Limboo community, also known as the Tsong community of Sikkim, the rally resonated with a powerful message.
Youthful energy dominated the rally, with BB Chong, Joint Secretary of LTVC, underscoring the “no seat, no vote” slogan. Chong challenged the SKM government, asserting that failure to provide tribal seat reservations before the upcoming bypoll would lead to further actions by the LTVC.

Yohang Tsong, President of LTVC, addressed concerns about potential divisions within the cause, warning that if the Tamang community does not support the initiative, they would endorse a Tsong candidate in the next general election for leadership of the state. During a subsequent press conference, Yohang highlighted the SKM government’s eight-year delay in fulfilling promises of seat reservations, alleging manipulation and failure to produce a viable formula without affecting the reserved seats of Bhutia-Lepcha and scheduled caste and sangha.

Referring to the historical context, Yohang Tsong recalled former Sikkim Member of Parliament PD Rai’s proposed formula of 40 seats, rejected by the SKM government. Yohang demanded that Sikkim’s current MP, Indrahang Subba, advocate for Limboo-Tamang seat reservation in the upcoming Winter Parliament session; otherwise, the Limboos of Sikkim would escalate their efforts.
Yohang Tsong announced LTVC’s plan to draft a memorandum for submission to all political parties in Sikkim, solidifying their commitment to the cause.
