The thrilling finale of the Beginner’s Snooker Tournament, hosted by the Canon Snooker Club, unfolded, on October 02, in Bhutia Busty, Namchi. The gripping showdown featured Suraj Chettri and Martin Rai, both hailing from Namchi, in a best-of-five round duel.

The tournament commenced on September 29, with an initial pool of 32 enthusiastic participants, all hailing from Namchi and all novice snooker players, representing various clubs.

Suraj Chettri, who faced a shaky start by losing the first two closely contested rounds, made a remarkable comeback in the third round, securing victory with a clutch potting of the black ball, earning him 04 crucial points. Meanwhile, Martin Rai, who had the opportunity to clinch the match in the third round, faltered by inadvertently simplifying Suraj’s shot strategy.

The tide of the snooker match dramatically turned in the third round, which had seemingly been Martin’s to win.

In the pivotal fourth round, Suraj managed to outscore Martin by 40 points, although both players incurred 16 and 4 points in foul shots, respectively. Suraj ultimately emerged victorious in the fourth round, setting the stage for a thrilling fifth and final round between the two contenders.

The tournament offered prestigious trophies and cash prizes for both the winner and runner-up, along with accolades for the semifinalists, the highest breaker, and the most promising upcoming player.

In a spectacular finish, Suraj Chettri secured the title of the Beginner’s Snooker Tournament champion, organized by the Canon Snooker Club in Bhutia Busty, winning three out of five rounds in an intense battle of cues and strategy.

Even though, the snooker game itself has earned the impopularity of being close to a gambling game in Namchi, just as mahjong and card games, the Cannon Snooker Club of Namchi dreams of producing the next players who shall participate in international snooker championship games.
