Tragic Accident at Viewpoint Namchi Highlights Urgent Need for Road Safety

A devastating accident occurred at Viewpoint Namchi, near Pakhrin Gaon, claiming two lives and leaving several others injured in Namchi, on March 4, 2024. The incident, which took place on the evening of March 3, serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of road safety measures in the area.

According to police sources, the two vehicles collided, resulting in one vehicle plunging off the cliff. In response, a police team was dispatched to the scene for inquiry. The Fire and Emergency Services, District Hospital Namchi, and local residents were also mobilized to assist in search and rescue operations.

The collision involved two vehicles with registration numbers WB64E 3233 and SK 06 P 0823, carrying a total of six occupants. The WB64E 3233 (i20 Car), driven by Anita Tamang (37 years old) and her daughter Saloni Gurung (22 years old), collided with the SK 06P0823 (Alto Car), driven by Pradeep Tamang. The impact of the collision caused the i20 Car to plummet approximately 700 feet below the road at Viewpoint, Bhanzyang Road.

Tragically, Anita Tamang lost her life at the scene, and her daughter Saloni Gurung passed away while receiving medical treatment at District Hospital Namchi. The four occupants of the Alto Car sustained injuries and are currently under observation at Namchi District Hospital.

This heartbreaking incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in the area. It serves as a poignant reminder for all road users to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and prioritize safety at all times. The consequences of negligence on the road can be catastrophic, affecting not only individuals but entire families and communities.

As investigations into the accident continue, authorities urge everyone to play their part in promoting road safety awareness. Together, we can work towards creating safer roads and preventing such tragic incidents from occurring in the future. Let us honor the memory of those lost in this accident by committing to safer driving practices and fostering a culture of responsibility on the roads.

Additionally, the authorities are working tirelessly to spread awareness on traffic rules and road accidents. And even more so in constructing mirrors in curves and zebra crossing for safe passages of pedestrians, and barricades in the roadsides of the road curves.
