An Annual Veterinary Camp by Trishakti Corps, Indian Army

An annual event of Veterinary Camp was observed in Tsomgo village under the Indian Army Flagship ‘Operation Sadhbhavana’ by Trishakti Corps of the Indian Army.

The president of Yak Association, Lakpa Sherpa, extends his thanks to the armies for the years of their help to the villagers of Tsomgo.

Sherpa have mentioned that the livelihood of the people from this particular place depends on the yaks. And the armies have helped them not only in curing animals, but in transportation of the people of the village.

The Indian Army – Trishakti Corps, are supporting in the treatment of injuries and sicknesses of the yaks for many years.

This is especially because the natural habitat of these large animals are very far from the nearest treatment facilities. They are lending their helping hands to fill this gap.

Beside the treatments to physical injuries, they are also providing the animals with medicines.

Eventhough yaks are large animals, they are quite sensitive to the injuries and sickness.

The veterinarians who supported in today’s cause are having their share of difficulties in treating the animals. Yaks being far from human touch and environment, add hardship in giving them a regular treatment, they share.

The concern however, lies in the change in weather, which leads to the change in viruses type, the veterinarians shared today.

Also, the rampant pollution and garbage may also be the cause of the new borne diseases in these semi-wild animals.

Sometimes, the yaks die after two to three days of catching the fever, the villagers have shared. Even the medications do not help sometimes.

Yaks are not only the livelihood of the people of the higher altitudes, they are also the source of tourist attraction. But currently, in Tsomgo village, there are 67 yaks only.

The Indian armies, either for the love of the animals or their kindness towards the locals. Have continuously given their support in treatment and medication of the animals for a very long time. And the Veterinary Camp has become one of their annual event now.
