Sikkim Police Community Outreach in Namchi

Namchi, 29th August 2025: The Sikkim Police launched its community outreach programme “Building Bonds” in Namchi, led by Director General of Police (DGP) Akshay Sachdeva. The initiative aims to strengthen police-public relations in Namchi, promote community policing in Sikkim, and spread awareness on traffic rules, lawful use of force, and cybercrime prevention.

Diverse Participation in Building Bonds Namchi Event

The Building Bonds Sikkim Police Namchi seminar at Townhall witnessed participation from students, monks, the Muslim community, and drivers’ associations of Namchi. The event highlighted inclusivity and unity among Sikkim’s diverse communities, a central theme of the Building Bonds initiative in Sikkim.

Key Highlights of the Programme

Unity and Nationalism: DGP Sachdeva opened with the message “United we stand, divided we fall”, emphasizing the strength of India’s cultural and linguistic diversity. He also highlighted Sikkim’s unique identity in promoting harmony.

Education through Entertainment:

With the motto ‘Education through entertainment: learning through role-playing’, the programme used role-playing education exercises between citizens and police, breaking barriers and encouraging cooperation.

Police Communication:

Addressing misconceptions, DGP Sachdeva explained that while police officers must use firm tones during investigations, the Sikkim Police community practice ensures respectful communication with law-abiding citizens.

Major Topics Covered in Namchi Seminar


1. Lawful Use of Force by Police – explaining responsible policing.

2. Traffic Rules and Fundamental Duties – raising traffic rules awareness in Sikkim.

3. Cybercrime Awareness – ASP/SDPO Namchi Bikash Tewari reports, “Greed and lust are the main reasons for becoming victims of cyber fraud.” The session highlighted the cybercrime awareness in Sikkim Police programmes.

Building Trust Through Community Policing

Senior Superintendent of Police, Namchi, Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, stressed that the motto “Protect and Serve” reflects the community development goals of Sikkim Police. He said the Building Bonds programme Namchi eliminates the fear of police and strengthens community policing in Sikkim through trust and cooperation.

Lifelong Project of Sikkim Police

DGP Akshay Sachdeva assured that Building Bonds is a lifelong project of Sikkim Police. Similar Sikkim Police awareness seminars will continue across the state, focusing on unity, community outreach, and safety for all citizens.
