Sikkim Police Celebrates 50 Years of Statehood, Sikkim Chief Minister Participates as the Chief Guest
Sikkim Police at the Battalion Headquarter of 3rd IRBn, celebrates the event of 50 Years of Statehood Celebration, in Mangley Yangang, Namchi District on June 01.
Sikkim Police is a 127 years old organization with over 8,000 members currently recruited in it.
The Sikkim Police is formally established by the King of Sikkim, in 1897, with a force posted at Aritar near Rhenock. After the merger, the Police Act of 1861 was extended to Sikkim, and the force was further strengthened (Source web).
During a parade by police on Sikkim Police uniform transition from 1897 to current, at Mangley, Yangang, Sikkim Police exhibited 18 different uniforms of Sikkim Police, including K-9 squad.
Sikkim DGP, Akshay Sachdeva, while reporting on active police operations to Sikkim Chief Minister, cum Home Minister, Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), mentions police operations against drugs peddling in Namchi District, and disaster management in Mangan District.
The chief minister in his addressal to all the police of Sikkim, congratulated all the Sikkimese for the golden jubilee celebration of statehood.

He reiterated on drug peddling, and addresses the SHOs of every district to be actively working against drug peddling. He mentions that the people of Sikkim must take the responsibility of informing the Police.
He strictly mentions the termination of the drug users amongst Sikkim Police without notice. Youths in the habit of using drugs and peddling them will not be supported by the Government. And the Society should boycott the users. However, the users who return from rehabilitation must be accepted by the society, the chief minister said.
The CM further says thst, Sikkim will organize a three days Police Meet in the coming years, with competition on sports, literacy and culture. He announced various categories of award for Sikkim Police Divisions and Battalions.
However, Sikkim Chief Minister mentions that each one of the Sikkimese people must be trained for policing, and take responsibility for nation when necessary.
Transfer orders has already been out for police personnels in different fields from their previous services. Especially the special branch who have served for more than five years, the chief minister stated.
Opportunities in Sikkim Police has been extended from the age of 18 years old to 34 years old. Security assistance and village police can be constables, and any graduate police personnel in service can apply for the post of SI, he said.
Eventhough Sikkim is the youngest state of India, Sikkim has achieved the highest level in law and order in the last 50 years, alongwith achievements in education, health, and infrastructural development. And the government is supporting any underprivileged citizen of Sikkim in the fields of education and health, the chief minister said
