Yougen Tamang, the spokesperson of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party and a founder of a local social media company, criticized the leaders of the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front party (SDF) during a constituency-level meeting in Temi Bazar, on February 01. Tamang urged the SDF party to revamp its leadership, emphasizing the need for more youth involvement.

Tamang specifically targeted former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and ex-MPs KT Gyaltsen and PD Rai, accusing them of lacking vision for Sikkim’s youth. He commended SKM party president PS Tamang for his leadership and the entrepreneurial policies implemented by the SKM government to beat the unemployment amongst the youths of the state.

Highlighting legislative issues, Tamang blamed the former Sikkim MPs for the dilution of the Sikkim Company Act of 1961 and Indian Company Act of 2013 in the state. He criticized their silence during the passage of relevant bills in the Lok Sabha, leading to difficulties for Sikkim residents who now must register companies outside the state.

Tamang also scrutinized the SDF party’s approach to youth employment, recalling instances where jobs were distributed without adherence to government job criteria. He emphasized the need for a visionary approach rather than treating job opportunities as charity.

Addressing the SDF’s election campaign strategy, Tamang disapproved of the use of ‘SDF 2.0,’ deeming it misleading. He suggested that a genuine change in leadership, party principles, and the party president would be necessary for any meaningful transformation.

Tamang concluded by stating that if the SDF party embraces youth leadership, changes its president and chief minister candidate, he would reconsider his vote.
