Namchi District Police have requested the people to support the Police in the quest, from SSP’s office in Namchi on May 05, after the seizure of 851 grams of heroin in Jorethang.

Namchi district police have shared the official phone number of SSP Namchi: (9046245044), for reaching out to police for any sign of drugs peddling in Namchi District. Namchi Police have promised anonymity of anyone who reports to the police.

In what is considered as the highest quantity of drug trafficking intercepted by Sikkim Police, this time in Jorethang, Namchi District Police have commented “the seizure of 815 grams of heroin, marks it to be one of the largest drug busts in the history of Sikkim”, in their press note.

The seizure was made on May 05, Monday, at around 01:39hrs, the Police have informed. The seizure operation was conducted under the leadership of SDPO Jorethang, Mingyur Nadak, SHO Jorethang, Umesh Pradhan, and Melli SHO, Kishor Chettri. The police arrested three drug peddlers in Jorethang area who are recognised to be the natives of Jorethang and Gyalshing area.

The press note by Namchi District Police confirmed that the narcotics were carefully concealed, indicating the involvement of a well-organized drug network.

“Investigations are underway to trace the supply chain and determine whether the accused had links to interstate trafficking operations”, the press note mentioned.

Although, the seizure of this large amount of heroin, speculated to have market value of 30-40 lakhs in rupees, was stopped by Police from the narcotic substances to be sold to the druggists, SSP Namchi, Karma Gyamtso Bhutia, have raised an alarming concern of it being ‘an organized crime’.
