Brothers United Barfung Organizes Losoong-Namsoong Celebration 2024-25

In the concluding event of, Losoong Namsoong Celebration 2024-25, at Veterinary Ground of Ravangla, an organizing of Brothers United Barfung (BUB), has Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang (Golay) as the chief guest.

The main attraction of the event is the final match of Open Men’s Football Tournament. The match is held between Singling SC versus Upper Barfung FC in daytime.

The inaugural of this tournament was on December 12, 2024, with twentysix teams from Sikkim and two from North Bengal. The cash prize for the winner is four lakhs and for the runner-up is two lakhs. Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang, as the chief guest, adds one and half lakhs each, for both the teams.

Similarly, the final match of Women’s Football Tournament, is also held today.

The winner gets cash prize of rupees one lakh and the runner-up gets rupees fifty thousand. Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang, as the chief guest, adds one lakh each to both the teams.

The other attractions of the daytime include, traditional stalls, Sikkim’s 50 years of statehood presentation, and government grants distribution to various beneficiaries.

Earlier, the organizers celebrated Pre-Christmas Celebration on December 22, and Tse-chi Celebration (New Year’s Eve of Bhutia and Lepcha communities) on December 31.

Behind the BUB Members

Over twenty-one members of BUB, formed of like minded youths of Barfung, are trying to bring public playground to the area.

Their commitment to bring about the playground is mainly because of the lacking of a playground here.

Losoong-Namsoong Celebration 2024-25 is the result of these youths coming together to organize a football tournament in the Playground.

It was only later, when the BUB members approached Barfung MLA, Rikshal Dorjee Bhutia, they planned to celebrate on the bigger scale.

MLA Bhutia is said to have encouraged and supported BUB on their approach, BUB member, Kunal Moktan informs.

The football tournament eventually turned into a celebration of grandeur, when our goodwill contribution got support from everybody, Kunal Moktan says

On the outset of the tournament, BUB members approached Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang.

CM Tamang acknowledged the BUB members’ personal contribution of building Ravangla Veterinary Ground for the tournament, Kunal Moktan informs.

The Construction of the Playground

Brothers United Barfung is recently formed, and are planning to register their association to the government shortly.

They started the playground construction on October 20, 2024. In support of Contractor Tashi Gyalpo Bhutia of Barfung, the Department of Roads and Bridges, NHPC, and NHIDCL PRO Jigmy Dorjee Bhutia.

Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang, in the event, announces that the event venue of Veterinary Ground will be constructed to District Alternative Ground.

In the Evening of Losoong-Namsoong Celebration 2024-25

In the evening, an open concert, performed by, singer and director, Anmol Gurung, Sikkim’s Salakhala Band, and Darjeeling’s Transfix Band attracted a large crowd.
