Namchi Will Face Major Water Scarcity Till The Main Trunks Are Restored

The water catering pipes of PHED Namchi were completely destroyed by an active landslide infront of NHIDCL tunnel at Ravangla bypass.
The pipelines were destroyed in the first two hours, from 7am to 9am, by the landslide.

All four main water catering trunks were completely destroyed by the landslide. The landslide stretches to more than 500meters above Rabongla-Yangang road.
The loose boulders, landforms and woods were swept down, alongwith the waterpipes. Which have resulted the complete blockage of Rabongla-Yangang road, which is a National Highway undertaking.
Meanwhile, PHED Namchi forwarded a letter on the subject matter to PCE cum Secretary of PHED, Gangtok. And also informed the head of the concerned line departments of Gangtok and Namchi. Namchi Municipal Council, DC Namchi, SP Namchi, Relief Commissioner of LR&DM Department, and CMO Namchi District Hospital too were informed of the same at 9:30am today.
PHED Namchi released a public information at around 11am, stating that due to the active landslide restoration works were not yet started.
They further informed that PHED officials and field staffs were monitoring the active slide from the site. The restoration process will start once the slide gets stable. Water supply in the Namchi town will be interrupted till the restoration work is completed.
It is everyday that the people of Namchi have had to face water scarcity. And one or more households buy water from private tankers everyday. The years and years of water scarcity in Namchi has hampered both domestic and economic growth in Namchi.
